Life with four kids can be a joyful whirlwind, but it can also get pretty chaotic. Amidst the school runs, soccer practices, and endless snacks, finding time for self-care can feel like an impossible feat.

But fear not, because I’m here to spill the beans on how I manage to sneak in some “me-time” and keep my sanity intact. So, grab your favorite cozy blanket, curl up with a cup of tea, and let’s chat about my self-care secrets.

How I Practice Self-Care With 4 Kids

Get a Massage

First up, let’s talk about one of my favorite ways to unwind – getting a massage.

Picture this: a quiet room, soothing music, and those magical hands working out all those knots and tensions. With four kids running around, this is my little slice of heaven. Not only does it help to relieve any built-up tension in my body, but it also allows me to take a break from the chaos of everyday life.

I usually schedule a massage once a month, and it’s like hitting the reset button on my stress levels. Plus, it’s an excellent excuse to escape for an hour or two.

Go for a Walk

When life feels like it’s spinning out of control, a simple walk can work wonders. Whether it’s a stroll in the park or a brisk walk around the neighborhood even with the kids in tow, getting some fresh air does wonders for my mood.

It’s also a great way to bond with the little ones and teach them about the beauty of the outdoors. Remember, it doesn’t have to be a marathon – just a leisurely walk to clear your mind.

Listen to Music

Music has the power to uplift, soothe, and energize us. I’ve created a playlist that’s my go-to for different moods. When I need a pick-me-up, it’s all about upbeat tunes that make me dance around the house.

For relaxation, I have a collection of calming melodies that help me unwind after a long day. Music is a universal language, and it’s a fantastic tool for self-care.

Mental Health Matters

Therapy has been a game-changer for me and there’s no shame in seeking professional help when it comes to taking care of your mental health.

I used to think I could handle everything on my own, but seeking professional help has been a lifesaver. A therapist offers a safe space to vent, reflect, and learn coping strategies.

With four kids, it’s easy to put your own mental health on the back burner, but regular therapy sessions have made me a better parent and partner. Trust me, it’s worth it.

Practice Meditation

Meditation may sound like an unattainable luxury with a bustling household, but trust me, it’s possible.

I carve out a few minutes each day to sit quietly, focus on my breath, and clear my mind. It’s a mini-vacation for my brain, helping me stay centered and calm amidst the chaos.

There are also plenty of apps and guided meditations out there to get you started.

Prioritize Sleep

Sleep is the unsung hero of self-care. With four kids, a good night’s rest can be elusive, but I make it a priority. Lack of sleep can leave you feeling drained, irritable, and unable to fully enjoy life’s precious moments.

I establish a bedtime routine not just for the little ones but for myself too. A cozy book, some herbal tea, and dimmed lights set the stage for a restful night. When I wake up refreshed, I’m better equipped to tackle the day’s challenges.

Fueling My Body Right

Maintaining a balanced diet is crucial for self-care. As parents, it’s easy to prioritize our children’s meals and neglect our own. But remember, you deserve to nourish yourself too!

It’s easy to grab fast food or snacks on the go when you’re juggling a busy family schedule, but I make an effort to try and prepare wholesome meals. Meal planning and involving the kids in cooking are fun ways to make nutritious eating a family affair.

And don’t forget to treat yourself to the occasional indulgence because hey, life’s too short to deny ourselves the simple pleasures.

Go On Adventures

Last but not least, traveling is my ultimate self-care indulgence. Exploring new places with my kids not only creates cherished memories but also broadens their horizons.

Whether it’s a weekend getaway to a nearby town or a full-blown family vacation, make it a priority to see the world and embrace new adventures.

We’ve had our share of road trips and family vacations, and the joy of experiencing new cultures and cuisines is incomparable.
