Summer is quickly coming to an end and I couldn’t let it be over without posting another cherry cocktail of some kind.
July is cherry season in Traverse City (the Cherry Capital of the US) and I grew up loving to go and see all the cherry things they had there. It’s amazing the amount of things they can make out of cherries!
I’m also super sad because summer is my absolute favorite. Spending time outside writing and getting work done while the kids enjoy the pool or just running around in the backyard.
Well, technically we in Fort Worth still have a few months of warm, the days are getting shorter for the kiddos to enjoy outside time before school starts.
So here we are with this cherry bourbon cola smash that basically tastes like a cherry coke with added bourbon and brandy. It’s divine.
Start by adding your cherries and lime juice to a cocktail shaker and muddling heavily with a drink muddler or the end of a wooden spoon.
Add the bourbon and brandy and fill the shaker half-way with ice. Cover and shake vigorously to thoroughly combine and chill the drink.
Double strain into a highball glass filled with fresh ice and top with cola. Garnish with a fresh cherry and lime wheel if you want.
I would make a decently large batch of the base and put it in the fridge to have for the weekend. Then just pull out, pour over ice and top with cola when I was ready for a cocktail for the day.
The perfect summer sipper to have during lazy days in the sun and by the pool.
