Happy almost weekend, loves! It’s been a crazy week here with the weather and having snow on the ground for a few days!
Dallas doesn’t normally see snow so the city is basically shut down and they are cycling the power to conserve energy on the grid. We’ve been without power and water and are just now getting back to having everything on for longer periods of time.
I was just in Michigan last week and the temps are colder here than they are in Michigan! So crazy!
Anyway, this basil gin cocktail is just what I’m needing after this week of crazy and madness. These photos just might be my most favorite to date, too.
The color made from the smashed basil is just gorgeous and paired with the subtle lighting from the super overcast day made for some fav shots.
I’ve made this cocktail a handful of times so far and I’ve even tried it with some purple basil. That made a gorgeous pinkish-purple hue and I debated which version I wanted to post.
I figured the regular basil would be batter since not many people would have access to purple basil. But if you’re reading this in the summer then I would for sure try it with some purple basil!
Start with about 12 fresh basil leaves and adding them and some lemon juice to the bottom of a cocktail shaker. Muddle heavily with a drink muddler or the end of a wooden spoon.
Be sure to break apart and smash all the basil leaves as much as possible.
Add the gin and simple syrup, fill the shaker 1/2 way with ice, cover and shake vigorously for 30 seconds.
Double strain into a rocks glass over 1 large ice cube and garnish with a fresh basil leaf. The double straining ensures you get out all the leftover chunks of basil from your cocktail and have a smooth drink.
Serve and enjoy!
Cheers friends. I hope you’re staying warm wherever you are.
