Good morning from South Padre Island! It’s been quite some time since we’ve been on a vacation – for obvious reasons – and I’m so excited to spend a few days on the beach and at the pool.

With everyone being home 24/7 for the past year plus, it was time for us to get out for a little vacation. We figured somewhere within driving distance was good, and South Padre Island was it!

Trip Recap: South Padre Island - Solare Bahia Mar Condo

We got in last night and spent the evening relaxing in the Airbnb, getting dinner, and checking out the pool and beach. The kids are ridiculously excited to spend time on the beach and so am I.

We’ll be here for the next 4 nights then on our way home we’re going to stop in San Antonio for two nights. Mostly to break up the trip and also to spend a little time on the Riverwalk that I haven’t been to in years.

Since the hubby and I are foodies, most of our vacations surround things to eat, and this was no different. Especially since we didn’t have any other plans to do much but lounge on the beach with the kids.

Where We Stayed

Solare Bahia Mar Condo

I found this cute little condo on Airbnb and it was perfect. It had three bedrooms and three full bathrooms, which is great for our large family. It also had a large open layout with a balcony overlooking the beach and water. I would for sure stay here again.

What We Ate

Sea Ranch Restaurant & Bar

33330 State Park Rd 100, South Padre Island, TX 78597

This was the first dinner we ate once we got into town and checked into our condo. Honestly, I was quite underwhelmed. The place had amazing reviews but it seemed that everything was fried and tasted slightly freezer burned. It was fine though, we were all starving after driving 8 hours and pretty much anything would have tasted good at that point.

The Grapevine Café & Coffeehouse

100 Swordfish St, South Padre Island, TX 78597

We loved this place! It was a cute little coffeehouse that also served breakfast and had some great food. Aubrey had the most delicious French toast and I had a Mexican style benedict. Plus coffee, always coffee.

Louie's Backyard

2305 Laguna Blvd, South Padre Island, TX 78597

Stefan found this place and they had all you can eat stone crab. It’s funny, when we go on vacation he always picks the places where we can get all the seafood. Haha, product of growing up in Florida? Anyway, the food here was great and we all – even the kiddos – ate our weight in stone crab.

Josephine's Kitchen

3409 Padre Blvd, South Padre Island, TX 78597

Midway through the week and this place was right down the street from our condo. It was surprisingly busy for a Wednesday morning and we ended up waiting a few minutes to get a table. Once we did sit down, the food was fantastic. I got another Mexican style omelet while the kiddos got chicken and waffles, French toast, and pancakes – per usual.

Café on the Beach

3616 Gulf Blvd, South Padre Island, TX 78597

Another cute little spot right on the beach to get a little dinner. We were exhausted from spending the whole day the pool and beach that we just found something quick and easy. We were able to get a seat on the outside patio and it was beautiful to watch the waves on the beach while eating.

Yummie's Bistro

700 Padre Blvd, South Padre Island, TX 78597

This might’ve been the best breakfast we had the whole time we were there. It was, again, surprisingly busy for a Thursday morning, but we got a table without too long of a wait. I decided to get a fancy coffee this time, and kids all got cute specialty drinks too. The food was great and we would for sure come back here again if we ever make it back into town.

Padre Island Brewing Company

3400 Padre Blvd, South Padre Island, TX 78597

Last night dinner and why not hit up one of the only breweries on the island? They had some good brews and we ordered pizzas for dinner. It had started raining so we just sat and enjoyed a few beers before heading back to the room to pack for the drive to San Antonio in the morning.

Things We Did

Beach & Pool Time

Like I said previously, all we really had planned for this trip was just to spend the days on the beach and in the pool. Some days it was a little too windy to go to the beach and we spent the time at the pool instead. Alivia absolutely loved the beach and building sand castles and Aubrey loved learning to swim in the pool.

This ended up being the prefect vacation with the kiddos to hopefully start getting back out again.
