The 75 Hard Style Challenge

If you’ve ever stood in front of a closet full of clothes and thought, “I have nothing to wear,” you’re not alone. That’s been my reality for years—despite a shopping habit that saw me spend $24,000 in 2025 alone, I still felt stuck in a style rut, frustrated, and uninspired by my wardrobe.

I realized I wasn’t just struggling with shopping; I was struggling with style, too.

The 75 Hard Style Challenge

This year, I decided it was time for a change. I wanted to get dressed more intentionally, move away from fast fashion, and build a wardrobe that feels timeless, classic, and truly “me.” That’s why I’m starting the 75 Hard Style Challenge—a 75-day commitment to dressing with purpose, using what I already own, and rediscovering my personal style (all while keeping my shopping in check).

The 75 Hard Style Challenge was created in 2024 by fashion analyst Mandy Lee (@oldloserinbrooklyn). Her approach encourages intentional dressing, wardrobe creativity, and a break from the cycle of constant shopping. Inspired by her challenge, I’m ready to see what I can learn about my style—and myself—over the next 75 days.

If you’re curious about what the challenge is, why I’m doing it, and how I’m planning to make it work, keep reading. I’ll share my rules, goals, and what I hope to learn along the way!

Why I’m Doing the 75 Hard Style Challenge

For the past few years, I’ve felt completely stuck in a style rut. Despite having a closet overflowing with clothes, I constantly found myself thinking, “I have nothing to wear.” The irony is, even after spending $24,000 on shopping in 2025, I still didn’t feel any more confident or inspired by my wardrobe. Instead, I felt frustrated, overwhelmed, and honestly, a little lost.

I realized my problem wasn’t just about shopping too much—it was about not knowing how to actually wear and style the pieces I already owned. I’d buy new things hoping they’d magically solve my style woes, but they’d just end up hanging in my closet, unworn and forgotten. It became clear that I needed to break this cycle and start dressing with intention.

I’m also at a point in my life where I want to move away from fast fashion and fleeting trends. I crave a wardrobe that feels timeless, classic, and sustainable—one that reflects who I am now, not just what’s popular on social media. I want to feel good about what I wear, not just because it’s new, but because it truly suits me and my lifestyle.

Combining the 75 Hard Style Challenge with my low-buy challenge felt like the perfect solution. It’s a way to hit reset on my style, get creative with what I already have, and finally develop a sense of confidence and ease when I get dressed. I’m hoping that by the end of these 75 days, I’ll not only have a better relationship with my wardrobe, but also with myself.

What Is the 75 Hard Style Challenge?

The 75 Hard Style Challenge is a 75-day commitment to dressing with intention, creativity, and gratitude for what you already own. Created in 2024 by fashion analyst Mandy Lee (@oldloserinbrooklyn), the challenge is designed to help you reconnect with your wardrobe, break free from the cycle of constant shopping, and discover your personal style—one outfit at a time.

At its core, the challenge asks you to:

  • Get dressed intentionally every single day (no matter what your plans are)
  • Document all your outfits
  • Avoid shopping for anything new (including secondhand items, if you want to go all-in)
  • Organize and clean out your wardrobe
  • Get creative with mixing and matching your existing pieces

For me, I’m sticking to the main rules but allowing myself to shop for thrifted and secondhand items if I find a true gap in my wardrobe. The goal isn’t to deprive myself, but to be intentional about any new additions and to focus on making the most of what I already have.

What I love about this challenge is that it’s not about perfection or having the “right” clothes—it’s about showing up for yourself, experimenting, and learning to appreciate your style journey. It’s a chance to step out of my comfort zone, try new combinations, and hopefully, come out the other side with a clearer sense of what makes me feel confident and authentic.

How I’m Preparing

Before diving into the 75 Hard Style Challenge, I knew I needed a fresh start with my wardrobe. Tomorrow, I’m doing a huge closet cleanout—letting go of anything that doesn’t fit, doesn’t feel good, or just isn’t “me” anymore. I’m keeping only the pieces I truly love and that I could actually see myself wearing.

Once my closet is pared down, I’ll be taking stock of what I have and start thinking about what is missing. Instead of rushing out to buy new things, I decided to be intentional about any additions. I’ve started thrifting for pieces I feel would really fill gaps in my wardrobe, focusing on quality and versatility rather than just grabbing whatever catches my eye.

To help hone my style, I’ve also been watching more thrifting and style videos on Instagram and TikTok. Seeing how others mix and match, experiment with color, and style pieces in unexpected ways has been super inspiring. It’s helped me get excited about the possibilities in my own closet, rather than feeling like I need to constantly buy something new.

My Style Goals for the Next 75 Days

As I start this challenge, I’m not just hoping to get dressed every day—I want to use these 75 days to really transform how I think about my style and my wardrobe. Here’s what I’m aiming for:

  • Define My Personal Style: I want to move away from chasing trends and instead figure out what truly feels like “me.” My goal is to develop a classic, timeless style that feels effortless and authentic, not just something I saw on social media.
  • Try New Silhouettes: I’m challenging myself to step out of my comfort zone—especially when it comes to skirts, dresses, and blazers. These are pieces I usually shy away from, but I’m excited to see how they can fit into my everyday style.
  • Get Creative with Mixing and Matching: Instead of just wearing a different top every day, I want to focus on mixing and matching what I already own. The goal is to create new outfit combinations, avoid exact repeats, and really make my wardrobe work for me.
  • Feel More Confident and Motivated: Ultimately, I hope that getting dressed with intention will help me feel more put-together and motivated—both in my work-from-home life and whenever I’m out and about. I want to break the cycle of feeling like I have nothing to wear and start each day with a little more confidence.

How I’m Documenting the Journey

One of the most important parts of the 75 Hard Style Challenge is tracking my progress and holding myself accountable. For me, that means documenting every single outfit, every single day.

To keep things simple, I’m taking a quick photo of my outfit each morning. It doesn’t have to be fancy or perfectly styled—just a real snapshot of what I’m actually wearing. I think it’ll be fun (and maybe a little eye-opening) to look back at the end of the challenge and see how my style has evolved, what pieces I reached for most, and which combinations surprised me.

Each week, I’ll be writing a follow-up blog post with a roundup of all my outfits, thoughts, and any lessons learned. I’m holding off on posting to social media for now, but as I get more comfortable and my style starts to take shape, I might start sharing there too. I’m hoping that documenting the journey will not only keep me motivated, but also help me spot patterns, celebrate progress, and stay inspired—even on days when I feel stuck.

Rules & Guidelines

To make the most of the 75 Hard Style Challenge—and to keep myself honest—I’ve set a few clear rules and guidelines for the next 75 days:

  • Get Dressed Intentionally Every Day: No matter what my plans are (even if I’m just working from home), I’ll put together a real outfit each day. No more defaulting to pajamas or workout clothes unless that’s my actual plan for the day.
  • Document Every Outfit: I’ll take a photo of my outfit every single day, both for accountability and to track my progress.
  • No Shopping for New Items: I’m committing to not buying any new clothes, shoes, or accessories during the challenge. The only exception is if I find a true gap in my wardrobe, I can shop for thrifted or secondhand pieces—but only with intention, not as a way to fill the shopping void.
  • Mix and Match, Don’t Repeat: I want to avoid wearing the exact same outfit twice. Instead, I’ll focus on mixing and matching pieces to create new combinations and get more creative with what I already own.
  • Organize and Clean Out My Wardrobe: Throughout the challenge, I’ll continue to keep my closet organized and let go of anything that doesn’t serve me. If something isn’t working, it’s okay to donate or sell it.
  • No Outfit Planning Paralysis: I’m giving myself permission to experiment and not overthink it. Some outfits will be hits, some will be misses—and that’s all part of the process.
  • Weekly Reflection: At the end of each week, I’ll review my outfits, note what worked and what didn’t, and set small goals for the following week.

What I’m Excited (and Nervous) About

I’ll be honest—starting the 75 Hard Style Challenge feels both exciting and a little intimidating. On the one hand, I’m genuinely looking forward to getting to know my closet better and discovering what I actually love to wear.

I’m also looking forward to the sense of accomplishment that comes from sticking with something for 75 days straight. I hope that by the end, getting dressed will feel less like a chore and more like a creative outlet—and that I’ll finally break the cycle of feeling like I have nothing to wear.

But I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous. The idea of coming up with 75 different outfits is definitely daunting! I worry about running out of ideas or getting stuck in a rut halfway through. I’m also a little anxious about resisting the urge to shop, especially when I see something cute or feel like I’m missing a key piece.

Still, I know that pushing through these nerves is part of the growth. I’m hoping that if I do hit a wall, sharing my journey—maybe even on social media—will help me stay motivated and inspired.

Staying Motivated

I know that 75 days is a long time to stick with any challenge, especially one that pushes me out of my comfort zone. Right now, I don’t have a set accountability plan in place, but I’m hoping that the act of documenting my outfits and writing weekly blog updates will help keep me on track. There’s something about seeing your progress in photos and words that makes it feel more real—and more rewarding.

If I find myself losing steam or running out of inspiration, I plan to turn to social media for a boost. Sharing my journey (even just a little) might help me connect with others doing similar challenges, and maybe even inspire someone else to join in. Plus, a little encouragement from friends or followers can go a long way when motivation dips.

I’m also reminding myself that it’s okay to have off days or outfits that don’t quite work. The goal isn’t perfection—it’s about learning, experimenting, and making progress. Celebrating small wins, like discovering a new favorite outfit or finally styling a piece I’ve ignored for years, will help keep me excited to keep going.

Ultimately, I’m hoping that the challenge itself—and the promise of a more confident, intentional style at the end—will be motivation enough to see it through.

What’s Next

My plan is to document every outfit, reflect on my progress each week, and share honest updates—both the wins and the struggles—right here on the blog.

I’ll be posting weekly roundups with photos, thoughts, and lessons learned, so if you’re curious about how it’s going (or want to join in yourself), be sure to check back. As my style evolves and my confidence grows, I may start sharing more on social media too.

If you’ve ever felt stuck in a style rut, overwhelmed by your closet, or just want to get more intentional about what you wear, I’d love for you to follow along—or even try your own version of the challenge!

Here’s to creativity, confidence, and making the most of what we already have.
