Another week of my 75 Hard Style Challenge is in the books, and this one was full of unexpected twists—icy winter weather, spontaneous family thrifting trips, and even a brand new car!

The 75 Hard Style Challenge: Week 5

As I continue to focus on intentional dressing, I’m learning that style is about more than just what I wear; it’s about adapting to life’s surprises, letting go of what doesn’t serve me, and celebrating the little moments along the way.

Whether I was bundled up for errands, hosting friends, or just enjoying a cozy day at home, each outfit this week reflected a balance of comfort, practicality, and a growing sense of confidence in my evolving wardrobe.

Weekly Reflections

This week reminded me that flexibility is just as important as intention when it comes to personal style. I had plans for certain outfits, but weather, last-minute gatherings, and even a new car meant I had to adapt on the fly. I found myself reaching for pieces that made me feel both comfortable and confident—like my new denim trench and black leather jacket—while also letting go of items that didn’t quite work, like a sweater that lost its shape.

Thrifting with my family was a highlight, not just for the finds but for the memories we made together. I’m also noticing how much easier it’s becoming to release “almost right” pieces and focus on what truly fits my lifestyle. Each day, I’m learning that style is less about perfection and more about feeling good in what I wear, no matter what the day brings.

Daily Outfit Diary

January 29 – Thrifting & Family Time

We skipped the big 50% off sale and opted for a local Goodwill trip due to icy roads. While I didn’t find anything for myself, it was so nice to get out of the house with the family after being cooped up for days. Later, we made a family thrifting trip and everyone found something they loved. Sometimes, the best part of thrifting is the experience and memories made together.

January 30 – Cleaning Day Comfort

Spent the day running around the house, cleaning and prepping for a last-minute get-together. I wanted to be casual and comfortable, so I styled my cargo pants with different tops, reminding myself that even on busy days, versatility matters.

January 31 – Denim Trench for a Chilly Gathering

We went out for breakfast while our cleaners were here, then hosted a little party with my husband’s friends. I planned to wear my new cotton skirt, but the 20° weather had other plans. Jeans and my new denim trench kept me warm and stylish for errands and socializing. I’m thrilled to finally have a denim trench in my closet!

February 1 – Birthday Month Cozy

It’s the start of my birthday month! I stayed home and kept things cute and comfortable with my stretchy Levi 318s and a long sleeve top from TJ Maxx. Most of my wardrobe is from TJ Maxx or Marshalls, and I love how easy it is to mix and match these pieces for a relaxed day at home.

February 2 – Letting Go of “Almost Right”

Another simple outfit for a day at the computer and running errands. After a few hours, I realized the sweater I chose just wasn’t working for me—it lost its shape and the color felt off. Into the donate bin it went. I’m getting better at letting go of pieces that don’t truly work.

February 3 – Leather Jacket Confidence

I originally had a different outfit picked out, but changed my mind after getting dressed. With the weather warming up, I was excited to wear my new black leather jacket for a day of car shopping and a dentist appointment for my son. The jacket was the perfect choice and made me feel confident and put together.

February 4 – New Car, New Adventures

We bought a new car for me—a cute black convertible! With the kids getting older, it’s the perfect little runaround. I celebrated by taking it out thrifting, choosing simple jeans and a sweater for warmth and comfort. Sometimes, the best style is the one that lets you enjoy life’s new adventures.

What I’m Learning

This week has reinforced that style is a journey, not a destination. I’m learning that it’s okay to change my mind about an outfit—even after I’ve put it on—and that letting go of pieces that don’t serve me is freeing, not wasteful. Weather and daily plans can shift my choices, but having a few versatile, confidence-boosting staples (like a great jacket or comfy jeans) makes it easy to adapt.

I’m also realizing that the experience of thrifting and dressing with intention is just as valuable as the clothes themselves. Making memories with my family, experimenting with new combinations, and celebrating little wins (like finding the perfect denim trench or a new car) all add to my sense of style and self.

Most importantly, I’m learning to trust my instincts—if something doesn’t feel right, it’s okay to let it go. Each week, I’m getting better at curating a wardrobe that truly fits my lifestyle and makes me feel good, no matter what the day brings.

My Current Wardrobe “Needs” List

As I continue to refine my closet and focus on intentional shopping, I’m keeping a running list of wardrobe “needs”—pieces that would truly add value and versatility to my style. This list helps me stay focused while thrifting and avoid impulse buys that don’t serve a real purpose.

The 75 Hard Style Challenge: Week 5 - Wish List

A couple of recent finds have let me cross off some items—like a lightweight sweater and a pashmina scarf, both thrifted at great prices! I’m prioritizing secondhand options whenever possible and only adding something if it truly fits the bill.

The goal is to build a wardrobe that’s versatile, timeless, and genuinely useful for my lifestyle—not just a collection of random pieces.

Wins, Challenges, and Surprises

Wins

  • I stayed committed to getting dressed with intention every day, even when plans changed or I was tempted to stay in loungewear.
  • Letting go of “almost right” pieces is getting easier—donating sweaters and other items that don’t fit or feel good has made my closet feel lighter and more functional.
  • I found a lightweight sweater and a beautiful pashmina scarf at Thrift Giant, crossing off two items from my wish list for just $13 total!
  • Adding a denim trench and a black leather jacket to my wardrobe has given me new styling options and boosted my confidence on chilly days.
  • Thrifting with my family was a highlight, turning shopping into a fun, shared experience.

Challenges

  • Adapting my outfit plans to unpredictable winter weather and last-minute schedule changes.
  • Resisting the urge to buy just because something is a good deal, and staying focused on my actual needs.
  • Styling cargo pants in new ways and pushing myself to get creative with pieces I already own.

Surprises

  • How much my mood improves when I put in a little effort, even if I’m just at home or running errands.
  • The satisfaction of tracking my wish list and seeing real progress as I find (and cross off) items over time.
  • Realizing that sometimes the best part of thrifting isn’t the clothes—it’s the memories made with family and the excitement of the hunt.

Looking Ahead

As I move into the next week of my 75 Hard Style Challenge, I’m excited to keep building on the progress I’ve made—both in my wardrobe and my mindset. I want to continue refining my closet by focusing on quality over quantity, staying true to my evolving wish list, and only adding pieces that truly fit my style and needs.

I’m looking forward to more intentional thrifting, especially as I track what I find and how my list changes over time. I also want to keep experimenting with new outfit combinations, pushing myself to style pieces in different ways, and letting go of anything that doesn’t make me feel confident or comfortable.

Most of all, I’m reminding myself that this journey is about enjoying the process—celebrating the little wins, learning from the challenges, and staying open to surprises along the way. Here’s to another week of mindful style, new adventures, and maybe a few more wish list finds!
