Reducing your screen time can be difficult in today’s world when your entire life is inside of your phone. Personally I used to try and do a detox weekly by leaving my phone inside by nightstand for the entire day.

However I’m not perfect and there are times when I go weeks without taking a break from screens. Then I’ll remember and leave it there for a day. Then ultimately it goes out the window again for another few weeks.

I am trying to get better and back into a weekly detox routine but I also want to start with smaller, easier lifestyle tweaks to help me lessen the time I look at my phone throughout the day.

Here’s a few simple ways I’m using to try and reduce my screen time use.

Utilize Voice Assistants

My husband is not a huge fan of voice assistants however, I love them. I use my Alexa for just about everything and I would use Siri more but for some reason she doesn’t work well for me. We have 3 Alexa’s in the house and I ask them to order me things, set timers, and various other household things I need to remember to do.

Delete Social Apps

I actually deleted Facebook years ago and have not added it back since. I also regularly delete Instagram to give me a few days without temptation to just sit and scroll endlessly – mostly on the weekends when the kids are home so I can spend more quality time with them.

Call Instead of Texting

I’ve actually been getting better at this one. I’ve realized I’d rather have a 5 minute conversation with someone to get the point across then hours of text messaging threads when sometimes tone or messaging can be misconstrued. It’s much easier to pick up the phone, call, and get the conversation over with than waiting hours for a reply.

Use a Paper Journal

I am much better at remembering things if I write them down so I have always had a paper journal and calendar system. Of course I still add all my items to a shared family calendar so the hubby knows about them, but paper calendar is where it’s at for me.

Leave Your Phone at Home

I love doing this and giving my full attention to my kids and husband when we’re out to dinner or going to the park. It doesn’t always happen but I’m getting into more of a habit of it.
