For the three years I’ve been living here in Michigan so far it’s still weird to me that we have seasons.
Not really because of the weather but because I can’t get certain fruits and veggies during certain times of the year.
Living and growing up in Florida, we were able to get just about everything at just about any time of the year.
Like peaches and citrus fruits are a year round thing in Florida and here I can only get peaches in the summer/fall and citrus in winter – in their respectable ripened seasons.
Last winter I got a craving for something with fresh peaches in it. So I went to the store for my weekly shopping trip and had peaches on the list.
I didn’t exactly expect to find them, but you never know and was hopeful because of growing up in Florida.
Well, I didn’t find them and it wasn’t a huge deal because I didn’t expect them to be there anyway.
But when I got to the checkout counter and the cashier asked me if I found everything that I needed (as all cashiers do), I told her no.
She gave me a puzzled look and I said I was looking for fresh peaches for a dish that I wanted to make. She then, in the most sarcastic and rude voice ever, said, “well, it’s the middle of winter we don’t have peaches.”
Uh, duh. However, I was just answering truthfully to the question you asked me. And you didn’t have to be rude about it.
I didn’t actually say that but I thought it as I gave her a smile and continued with cashing out my grocery haul.
But alas, it is currently summer and peaches are in full abundance. So I’m making all the peach things!
Just like this peach cobbler protein shake. I’ll get my workout done then head upstairs for my post-workout shake and have been mixing this little baby up for a few weeks now.
Fresh peaches are my jam and I’ll take them any way I can get them!
