March Thrifted vs. Styled

It’s been another month of Thrifted vs. Styled finds, and I genuinely cannot believe March is already over.

This series is my way of sharing what I thrifted during the month, but also what I actually wore in real life, because I’ve learned that the “styling” part is where the magic is (and where the lessons always show up).

March Thrifted Vs. Styled

March also happened right at the end of my low-buy challenge (which I’m still continuing), so everything I thrifted and styled this month was coming from that same intentional mindset: slowing down, shopping with a plan, and focusing on pieces I’ll truly wear instead of buying something new just to feel inspired.

March in Fort Worth felt like a little bit of everything, chilly mornings, random warm days, and spring break plans that did not go the way I expected.

So instead of just listing my thrifted finds, I’m weaving them into an outfit diary style recap: what I bought, how I wore it, what worked, what didn’t, and the pieces that ended up being the real MVPs.

What I Thrifted in March

March was a really good thrifting month for me because almost everything I brought home had a purpose. I wasn’t just picking up random “cute” pieces, I was looking for items that would actually get worn, solve a gap in my closet, or help me break out of my usual tee-and-jeans rut (without abandoning what feels like me).

The MVPs (my 3 favorite finds)

  • Woven purse ($6.99): This one looks almost exactly like a larger bag I already own but never reach for, and I’m excited because this version feels so much more wearable. It’s the perfect warm-weather bag and I can already see myself using it constantly once spring and summer really hit.
  • Blue suede jacket ($12.91): An immediate yes the second I saw it. I have a suede jacket on my wish list and I still can’t believe I found such a beautiful blue one while thrifting.
  • Navy Quince silk button up ($5.99): Another can’t-believe-it thrift find. It’s 95% silk, feels like such a closet-elevator piece, and I already have a few outfits planned in my head for it.

Accessories (small pieces that make a big difference)

  • Braided belt ($4.99): I realized recently that I’m in desperate need of belts because all of mine are too big. This one is the perfect length, and I love that the braided texture adds a little something extra without trying too hard.
  • Black fringe bag ($7.99): Just a fun, cute bag that I cannot wait to style with my new boots that I bought recently.

Spring tops that aren’t just basic tees (a.k.a. my “sweater tee” era)

I clearly leaned into “sweater tees” and knit tops this month, and honestly, they’re the perfect bridge for spring in Fort Worth when it’s warm in the afternoon but still cool in the morning.

  • White sweater tee ($5.99): No tags, but it’s soft, has a cute shape, and feels like an easy upgrade from a plain tee.
  • Purple sweater tee ($1.99): The same idea, and perfect for those weird spring days. (Also 50% cotton, which is a win.)
  • Maroon sweater tee ($2.74): Another easy throw-on piece, but the color makes it feel more interesting than a basic tee.
  • White cotton sweater/knit tee ($11.99): 96% cotton, cute oversized tee design, and I love the striping.
  • White knit cotton tee ($4.99): Oversized and coming with me on warm-weather trips.
  • Brown knit tank ($3.99): My love for knit tanks runs deep, so I had to snag this one.
  • Black lace tee ($5.49): I’ve been into layering tanks and sheer tops lately, and this one is going to look cute layered over so many different colors.
  • Short sleeve button down ($2.99): Thought this would be cute paired with shorts and sandals.

Closet-building basics (layering pieces I’ll actually wear)

A big goal for me lately has been building up my long sleeve tee collection and stocking my closet with basics that are still cute and wearable, not just “default” pieces.

  • Green long sleeve tee ($6.99): 96% cotton and the green is a perfect muted shade.
  • Black Ralph Lauren cotton long sleeve tee ($2.99): A great staple layering piece with the cute purple logo.
  • White cotton long sleeve tee ($2.99): Another layering win for when it gets chilly.
  • Blue cotton DKNY tee ($3.99): A nice thick cotton tee that can layer or stand on its own.
  • Black cotton tank ($3.75): A great thick 100% cotton tank that will be great for layering or will stand on its own.
  • Denim shirt ($5.99): I debated this one, but I can see myself wearing it, so I brought it home.

“I can’t believe I found this” elevated pieces

  • White silk tank ($3.99): 100% silk and I knew it was coming home with me. It’s an off-white color and will go with so many things.
  • Snake print blouse ($8.99): I almost bought this a few years back from Express and I regretted it ever since, so when I saw it at the thrift store I knew it had to come home with me.
  • White Eddie Bauer button up ($6.99): Since I bought a couple new pairs of cowboy boots recently, I thought I needed a nice white button down to wear with them. This one is crisp and beautiful.
  • Brown J. Crew sweater ($1.99): This was on sale, and even though I couldn’t find a care tag, it feels like good quality. This will be a great sweater for next winter season.
  • Blue Madewell slouchy tee ($2.50): Just a cute slouchy tee that will go great with jean shorts.

How I Styled My Thrifted Finds

Chapter 1: Getting dressed = instant mood boost

The 75 Hard Style Challenge: Week 9

3/1: I truly did not want to get dressed today, but as soon as I did, my mood lifted and I felt ready to get things done around the house. It was gloomy outside, so I went with a cashmere 3/4 sleeve sweater and my Levi Ribcage jeans (yes, I have too many pairs, but they fit me so well). I added a little pop with a leopard belt, and I felt put together and comfortable all day.

Chapter 2: The outfit that felt “off” (and the clue I needed)

The 75 Hard Style Challenge: Week 10

3/6: I thought we were staying home, so I started with a casual base, jeans + a Target tee, then added my new thrifted braided belt and boots when we decided to go out. We ended up running errands and grabbing lunch together (which I love), but I wasn’t a huge fan of my outfit. Looking back, I think it was the belt with the too-casual tee combo that made it feel off, like the outfit couldn’t decide what it wanted to be.

Chapter 3: Cold snaps + easy layering wins

The 75 Hard Style Challenge: Week 10

3/8: Woke up to 40°F and daylight savings time stole an hour of my life. I wore my new thrifted green long sleeve tee with Levi 318 jeans, sneakers, a jacket, and my new belt that seems to go with everything.

The 75 Hard Style Challenge: Week 10

3/11: I was feeling a little “groundhog day” with my outfits, so I went back to an easy formula, a thrifted cotton/silk long sleeve tee + Levi Ribcage jeans, and called it good. (Also: storm weather always makes me want to wear my coziest layers.)

The 75 Hard Style Challenge: Week 11

3/12: Another cold day, another at-home work day. I wore H&M jeans and a thrifted Gap merino wool long sleeve top with boots. I’m not sure if the boots are “too tall” for me these days, but luckily I wasn’t leaving the house.

The 75 Hard Style Challenge: Week 11

3/13: We went car shopping (because my current car is having transmission issues), and I wore my new-to-me thrifted white sweater tee, Levi Ribcage jeans, and boots. It was freezing in the dealership, so I added a jacket, and the manager was so complimentary about my outfit, which honestly made my day.

Chapter 4: The print moment that reminded me I don’t need to play it safe

The 75 Hard Style Challenge: Week 10

3/9: I styled my new-to-me thrifted snake print blouse with jeans, and I loved it. I wanted to be semi put together, but still casual, and this combo did exactly that. The meeting I thought I had didn’t happen, so it ended up being a work-from-home outfit, but it still made me feel more like myself.

Chapter 5: Spring break curveballs (and making it work anyway)

March Thrifted Vs. Styled

3/17: Our flight to Florida got cancelled, so we pivoted and took the kids to the arcade. It was chilly again, so I wore a thrifted sweater tee with Levi Ribcage jeans, a black denim jacket, and black booties.

3/18: Zoo day… except it was so packed we couldn’t even get in. I wore what I’d planned for Florida: my thrifted striped button down with Levi Ribcage cutoff jeans and a jacket. Even though the plan didn’t happen, I still loved the outfit (and we got a nice family lunch out of it).

Chapter 6: Warm weather outfits (the Florida outfits, just… in Fort Worth)

Once spring break plans shifted, we used that week to start spring updates around the house, and I basically lived in the outfits I’d packed for Florida.

March Thrifted Vs. Styled

3/19: Home Depot day for plants and backyard prep. Oversized thrifted sweater tee + shorts + my favorite sandals. I love this sweater tee because it’s open knit, breathable, and the striping makes it feel “styled” without effort.

March Thrifted Vs. Styled

3/20: Another warm one. Thrifted Madewell slouchy tee + shorts + sandals for a Lowe’s run.

March Thrifted Vs. Styled

3/21: Errands + Sam’s pickup. Thrifted sweater knit tank + Levi Ribcage cropped jeans + sandals.

Chapter 7: End-of-month favorite

March Thrifted Vs. Styled

3/28: Busy day, brunch, birthday party, dinner with friends. I went with my trusty Levi Ribcage jeans, my favorite thrifted sweater tee, and my new blue suede boots. This combo felt like me, comfortable, put together, and still fun.

Hits, Misses, and Lessons Learned

March reminded me that personal style isn’t something you “solve” once and then you’re done. It’s daily, it’s seasonal, and it’s heavily influenced by your mood, the weather, and what real life is asking of you that week. Some outfits felt like instant wins, and a few felt a little off, but honestly, both were helpful.

Hits (what worked really well)

  • Getting dressed changed my mood, even on at-home days. The biggest example was 3/1. I didn’t want to get dressed at all, but as soon as I did, I felt more like myself. It’s such a simple reminder that getting dressed doesn’t have to be about being “fashionable,” it can just be a tool to shift your energy.
  • The “sweater tee” pieces were the perfect bridge into spring. They gave me something a little more interesting than a basic tee, but they still felt comfortable and easy. They also worked really well with jeans on chilly days and with shorts once it warmed up.
  • Accessories made a bigger difference than I expected. My thrifted braided belt ended up being one of those pieces that ties outfits together and makes them feel finished. I also love when a bag or belt adds texture without adding effort.
  • The snake print blouse reminded me I don’t need to play it safe. It still felt like “me,” but it added interest instantly. Paired with jeans, it was the perfect mix of casual and put together.

Misses (or, the outfits that didn’t quite land)

  • The 3/6 outfit was a good reminder that an outfit needs a clear “vibe.” Jeans + a Target tee is fine, but adding the belt and boots made it feel like it was trying to be elevated without the base outfit supporting it. Looking back, I think it was the belt combination with the too-casual tee that threw it off.
  • Outfit fatigue is real. Around 3/11 I really felt that “groundhog day” feeling. When you’re getting dressed every day, you can start to feel like you’re repeating yourself even when you aren’t. It’s not necessarily a closet problem, it’s often a creativity and energy problem.

Lessons learned (what I’m taking into next month)

  • I don’t need more clothes, I need better outfit formulas. March made it clear that when I feel bored or uninspired, having a few go-to formulas (like “sweater tee + jeans + belt,” or “blouse + jeans + simple shoes”) makes getting dressed easier and keeps me from defaulting to shopping for inspiration.
  • Thrifting is working best when it supports my real life. The pieces I’m happiest with are the ones that slide right into my closet and make outfits easier, not harder. That’s the whole point of this series for me, finding great pieces is fun, but wearing them is the win.
  • Style wins can still happen when plans fall apart. Spring break getting thrown off could have easily turned into a “why bother” week, but I still wore the outfits I was excited about. That alone feels like progress.

Updated Clothing Wish List

One of the biggest things keeping me grounded during my low-buy challenge is my running clothing wish list. It helps me stay intentional, avoid random impulse buys, and focus on pieces that actually fill a gap in my wardrobe.

A few wish list wins (found or checked off)

  • Long black overcoat (calf/ankle length), found an almost floor-length wool overcoat at Thrift Giant for $28.
  • Lightweight sweater, found a pink Quince cashmere sweater at Thrift Giant for $7.
  • Neutral cashmere tassel scarf, I found multiple great scarves (pashmina + cashmere options) while thrifting.
  • Blue suede cowboy boots (mid calf), found and purchased.
  • Brown suede cowboy boots (mid calf), found and purchased after sticking to my low-buy for months.

What’s still on my list (and what I’m keeping an eye out for)

  • Outerwear
    • Long cream overcoat (calf/ankle length)
    • Long black trench coat (calf length)
  • Jackets
    • Brown suede jacket (with fringe or without)
    • Brown leather bomber jacket
  • Sweaters
    • White wool/cashmere sweater
    • Black wool/cashmere sweater
  • Skirts
    • Plaid cotton/wool midi skirt (still hoping to find a darker one, like green/blue/black)
    • Brown or black suede midi skirt
  • Bags
    • Large oversized black sequin clutch
    • White faux fur bag (I’ve seen one at Goodwill Boutique for $27 but I’m still holding out)
    • Vintage Coach bag (any color)
    • Cow Print Brooklyn style bag
  • Boots
    • White/beige cowboy boots (knee high)
    • Light brown/tan suede cowboy boots (knee high)

Looking Ahead

That’s everything I thrifted and styled in March, and honestly, this month was such a good reminder of why I love doing this series. It’s fun to find great pieces at the thrift, but the real win is learning how to wear them, remix them, and make them work in everyday life, even when the weather is weird, plans change, or I’m feeling bored and uninspired.

Going into April, I’m keeping things simple and intentional. I want to keep building outfits out of what I already own, keep using my thrifted finds in real life (not just letting them sit in my closet waiting for the “perfect” day), and keep leaning on my clothing wish list so I’m not shopping out of boredom or feeling uninspired.

A few things I’m focusing on next month:

  • Continue the low-buy mindset. Thrifting can still turn into over-shopping if I’m not paying attention, so I’m sticking with the same rule: shop with a plan, not a mood.
  • Wear the MVP pieces on repeat. I want to keep styling my March favorites (especially the woven purse, blue suede jacket, and Quince silk button up) in multiple ways so I get the most out of them.
  • Build outfits around “real life” days. Errands, work-from-home days, weekend plans, and those days where I don’t feel like getting dressed but know I’ll feel better once I do.
  • Keep an eye out for wish list gaps, not random distractions. If something isn’t on my list and doesn’t fill an actual need, it’s probably a no.

If you want to follow along in April, I’ll be sharing another Thrifted vs. Styled recap next month, plus updates from my low-buy challenge as I keep going.
