Mango Mezcal Margarita

Happy almost weekend, ya’ll! Since it is Thursday… I thought it would be the perfect time to bring you another delicious cocktail recipe!

Actually, any day is a good day for a cocktail…  especially when you have 4 kiddos running around you all day. However, it is almost the weekend and almost time for me to shut the computer down for a couple days.

I do have to say that I am getting much better at setting ‘office hours’ now and being more focused in the work while I have the time. Then making sure to really unplug from it on the weekend to spend time with the fam. It’s still a learning curve but I’m getting a better grip on it.

Anyway, enough of my blathering. Let’s make this delicious mango mezcal margarita you see here!

Mango is easily one of my favorite fruits but it’s also one of the most difficult to cut and eat. So I usually only buy it fresh if it’s pre-cut just because it’s easier. And I’m lazy.

I also cannot get enough of the dried mango. I will literally eat a whole bag in one sitting. But I digress…

Mango Mezcal Margarita

I did buy a couple fresh mangoes for this shoot though, but you don’t need them to make the drink. This delicious beauty is made with mango nectar that you find in the blue can in the ‘international’ section of the grocery store. Or maybe the juice aisle depending on your store. I can find them in either section.

Also, since this is made with mango nectar you can absolutely make this drink year round. I mean, just in case you stumble upon this recipe in the middle of winter, with 2 feet of snow on the ground, and all you are craving is a tropical vacation.

This won’t magically take you to a tropical island, unfortunately, but you can pretend while you’re drinking it? Haha!

Let’s get to shaking…

Mango Mezcal Margarita

First, if you don’t have both mezcal and tequila you can use one or the other. While I absolutely love the smokey mezcal flavor I used it in conjunction with tequila for this drink. I wanted more booze but less smoke so the addition of regular blanco tequila balanced it out nicely and allowed more of the sweet mango nectar to come through.

Add your mango nectar, lime juice, tequila, mezcal, and simple syrup to a cocktail shaker. Fill it halfway with ice then cover and shake vigorously for 30 seconds to combine ingredients and chill the drink.

Rim your glass using the wedge of a lime and dip the edge into some Tajin seasoning or salt. I like Tajin because it gives it a little extra chili and lime flavor but use whatever you want. Or nothing at all… your choice.

Fill the glass with ice and strain the contents of the shaker into the glass then top up with a little club soda, if desired. Personally I didn’t use the club soda but the hubby did.

Finally, garnish with some fresh mint leaves and a couple slices of mango if you’re feeling fancy. Cheers!
