I am so excited to finally share with you the project that I have been hinting at for the past month… our brand new floors, kitchen counters, and backsplash!

I’m not a huge fan of carpet. I like it in the bedroom but that’s about it. Well, our house had carpet everywhere… except the kitchen and dining room. So after a few discussions with the hubby and a few trips to the different flooring outlets, he finally cracked and let me order some new floors. When we went to purchase the new floors, we were originally going to have the company install them because the hubby works all the time and we also have 2 kiddos. Thought it would be easier… well, it would have been, but it also would have been more than double the cost of the floor for installation. So we decided that we would tackle them ourselves.

After getting the hubby on board with the floors, I thought I would try and convince him to do the counters, too. Why not just do all the upgrades we wanted at the same time and not have a mess of a house for more than a week or so? It worked and we also picked out and ordered brand new granite counters while we were waiting for the floors to be delivered.

The floors sat in the box in the kitchen for about 2 weeks, then my mom came to visit for a while and I knew this would be the perfect time to get them installed. She could help with the babies and I could install the floor. It worked perfectly and I was able to get the floors done in about 4 days, by myself with my mom just coming behind to finish the 1/4 round and the hubby watching the babies on his days off.

It was a lot of work but in the end it was totally worth it. The guy at the lumber store for the floors told me it would take about 2 weeks by myself… well I made him eat his words when I told him it only took me 4 days when I went back to return some unused floor. Haha! BOOM! Girls can do it just as well, if not better than boys!

So here’s my photo dump of the before, in progress, and after!

Don’t mind the counter full of $hit… I decided to document the remodel last minute and didn’t feel like cleaning the counter before taking pictures. So, here is my messy kitchen in all it’s glory… haha!

Demo:

I’m so glad that I had my mom and sister here to help me. I don’t know how I would have gotten it done if it weren’t for them helping with demo and watching the kiddos for me.

The counters have arrived!

The counter tops actually didn’t show up until about 2 weeks after we finished the floors. I tried to coordinate everything arriving and being installed around the same time but not everything goes according to plan. When they did finally arrive and I was so excited. They are gorgeous!

Backsplash Installation:

As soon as the guys finished the counters, the hubby and I went directly to the hardware store to pick out some tile for the backsplash. Then started installing it the next day. The backsplash only took a day to install but it was tedious work and took a lot of time. Good thing there was beer…

The FINAL product!

I would have loved to just have the hardwood throughout the house without a rug… but the hubs thought it would get too cold in the winter. I swear he’s like a lizard. He get’s so cold, so easily. Anyway.. so we took a trip to Ikea and found this beautiful rug that matched and fit perfectly.

So there you have it… our kitchen remodel and brand new floors! I could not be more excited about how they turned out. It took a lot of sweat and hard work but I do think that it was totally worth it.

Have you ever installed floors or backsplash? Would you ever try to install them yourself?
