Welcome back to the final installment of my garage renovation journey!
If you’ve been following along, you know that Phase I and II were all about building custom shelves to organize the left and right sides of my garage. These initial phases transformed my cluttered space into an organized haven, providing ample storage for tools, kids’ toys, holiday decorations, and more.
But the ultimate goal of this renovation was always to create a custom workshop where I could tackle even more DIY projects around the house. And now, in Phase III, I’m excited to share how I built custom cabinets, installed a refrigerator and freezer, and added the final touches to complete my dream workshop.

Measuring and Planning
The first step in Phase III was to measure the available space and take inventory of all the items I needed to store.
This planning phase was crucial because it allowed me to design cabinets that would fit perfectly around the refrigerator and new freezer while also providing enough storage for my tools and supplies.

I knew that custom cabinets would be the best solution, as they could be tailored to my specific needs and the unique dimensions of my garage.
Building Custom Cabinets
With my measurements and plans in hand, I began the process of building the cabinets. This was a new challenge for me, as I had never built cabinets before.
I started with the two cabinets that would surround the refrigerator and freezer. These cabinets needed to be sturdy and spacious enough to accommodate these large appliances while also providing additional storage.
Next, I moved on to the bottom cabinets, which included multiple drawers for tool storage and a worktop.

The countertop was crafted from 2x6s that I joined together, then stained and sealed with polyacrylic for a durable and attractive finish. This worktop would serve as the primary workspace for all my future projects.

Upper Cabinets and Final Touches
After completing the bottom cabinets, I built and installed the upper cabinets. These provided additional storage for larger items and car cleaning stuff that I wanted to keep within easy reach.

Custom drawers and doors were added to all the cabinets, and the entire setup received a coat of primer followed by a sleek Tricorn Black paint from Sherwin Williams.

This color choice not only looks fantastic but also hides dirt and grime, keeping the workshop looking clean and professional.

To maximize the functionality of the space, I installed Wall Control panels on the wall behind the counter. These panels are perfect for organizing tools and making them easily accessible.

With everything in its place, the workshop was finally complete.
Reorganizing and Enjoying the Space
Once the construction was finished, I took the time to reorganize the entire garage. Items that had been temporarily stored elsewhere were brought back in and placed in their new homes within the custom cabinets. The result is a clean, organized, and highly functional workshop that meets all my needs.
This garage renovation has been the biggest project I’ve undertaken in this house, and I’m thrilled with the results. The custom cabinets and organized storage have transformed the space, making it a joy to work in.
I can’t wait to start new projects and continue improving my home with the help of my new workshop.
Conclusion
Phase III of my garage renovation has been a labor of love, and I’m excited to share the final results with you.
Whether you’re looking to build your own custom workshop or simply seeking inspiration for your next DIY project, I hope this post provides valuable insights and motivation.
