What is Blood Orange Daiquiri?

The daiquiri is a timeless cocktail with roots tracing back to Cuba in the early 1900s. Traditionally made with rum, lime juice, and sugar, it’s a simple yet elegant drink that has stood the test of time.

The addition of blood orange juice brings a modern twist to this classic, adding a burst of color and a unique citrus flavor that’s slightly sweeter and less tart than regular oranges. It’s a cocktail that feels both nostalgic and contemporary, making it a favorite for cocktail enthusiasts.

How to Make this Recipe

This recipe is made best with fresh blood orange juice but you can also buy premade blood orange juice. Fortunately, this time of the year blood orange are in full swing and you can find them in just about every major grocery store… except Walmart.

They also make a pre-squeezed, if you will, blood orange juice that you can get from the juice section if you don’t feel like squeezing your own.

You can usually get about 1 to 2 ounces of juice from one blood orange. So you only need a couple blood oranges to make a bunch of cocktails.

Squeeze the fresh juice and add it to a cocktail shaker. Add the rum, lime juice, and simple syrup (you can find the recipe here).

Fill the shaker 2/3 with ice, cover and shake vigorously for 30 seconds to thoroughly mix and chill the drink.

Strain into a cocktail glass over one large ice cube and garnish with a wedge or slice of blood orange. Serve and enjoy!

Cooking Tips & Tricks

Choose the Best Blood Oranges: Look for blood oranges that feel heavy for their size, as they’re likely to be juicier. The skin should be firm and free of blemishes.

Balance the Flavors: Taste your cocktail before serving and adjust the sweetness or acidity as needed. A little extra lime juice or simple syrup can make all the difference.

Chill Your Glass: For an extra-refreshing drink, chill your rocks glass in the freezer for a few minutes before serving.
